Roger Williams National Memorial Patch History Battle Travel Embroidered Iron On

Located on a common lot of the original settlement of Providence, Roger Williams National Memorial commemorates the life of the 17th-century founder of Rhode Island and a champion of the ideal of religious freedom. The Memorial includes 4.5 acres of landscaped park. The visitor center is open throughout the year and offers an exhibit detailing Roger Williams's life and connections to our lives in the 21st century.

Banished from Massachusetts for his beliefs, Williams founded Providence in 1636. This settlement and later the colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations served as a refuge where all could come to worship as their conscience dictated without interference from the state.

Williams's portable sundial/compass, displayed on this collectible, is one of the few surviving artifacts of his life and represents his journey through the wilderness and his quest for religious tolerance.
